Antonio Poli - tenor
Young Italian tenor, Antonio Poli was born in Viterbo, he specialized in Rome under
the guidance of Romualdo Savastano. Mr. Poli came to the fore on the international
stage in 2010, when he won the 1st prize and the prize of the audience
at the 29th International Hans Gabor Belvedere-Competition in Vienna,
taking part then in the Young Singer’s Project at Salzburg Festival (Summer 2010).
Prestigious engagements followed: Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Don Ottavio
in Don Giovanni at Teatro La Fenice in Venice; Alfredo in La Traviata
at the New National Theatre in Tokyo conducted by Yves Abel, at the Teatro Filarmonico
in Verona and at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice; Nemorino in L’Elisir d’amore
in Rome conducted by Donato Renzetti, and at the Teatro Real in Madrid, at Staatsoper
Berlin, in Graz and in Bologna; Fenton in Falstaff at the Bayerische Staatsoper
in Munich, under the baton of Daniel Harding, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan
then on tour in Tokyo, and at the Glyndebourne Festival under Mark Elder; Don Ottavio
in Don Giovanni at Chicago Lyric Opera conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, at
the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Hamburg and Graz; Cassio in Otello
under Bertrand de Billy at the Chicago Lyric Opera and under Antonio Pappano at
Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London; concert performances of Stravinsky’s
Rossignol and Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta under Ivor Bolton at Salzburg
Festival. Particularly interesting it is his collaboration with Riccardo Muti who
chose him as Conte in Mercadante‘s I Due Figaro at Salzburg Whitsun Festival,
at Ravenna Festival and at the Teatro Real in Madrid, as Ismaele in Nabucco
at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome then on tour in Tokyo and as Macduff in Macbeth
again at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and at Salzburg Festival.
Active also on the concert side Mr. Poli performed Berlioz’ Messe Solenelle de Sainte
Cécile under the baton of Bertrand de Billy at the Musikverein in Vienna;
Schubert’s Mass in A-flat major under Riccardo Muti in Chicago; Rossini’s
Stabat Mater under Rolf Beck at the Schleswig-Holstein-Music-Festival and
at the Rheingau Music Festival, while under Jesus Lopez Cobos at the Vatican City
and in Orvieto; Mozart‘s Requiem in Rome under Antonio Pappano; Penderecki‘s
Polish Requiem in Hamburg conducted by the composer; Bach‘s Magnificat
in Chicago. Antonio Poli also performed in series of concerts at the prestigious
Lucerne Festival, at the Wigmore Hall in London and in Tokyo, Toronto, Parma, Venice,
Palermo, Zurich and Berlin.
Mr. Poli’s future engagements include: Fenton in Falstaff at the Teatro San
Carlo in Naples, Pinchas Steinberg conducting; Alfredo in La Traviata and
Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi (Damiano Michieletto directing) at the Teatro
dell’Opera in Rome; Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Staatsoper) and Alfredo
in La Traviata at the (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin; his debuts as Edgardo in
Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in Leipzig and as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così
fan tutte in Chicago.
